Hi Katrina Yes I've read the book. I went to hear her speak and it she and
the book's content are so inspiring. She speaks so matter of factly about
what she and her husband did ( I had a bit of trouble with the missionary
zeal and the paternalism though). Catherine H's work and it puts a new
perspective on life and maternity care in the western world.

I was so humbled by the dignity and courage of these women or at least the
children cause that is what they are. They made me cry. I am proud of my
autographed copy book (I bought three) cause the proceeds are going to the
fistula hospital. When I read about the woman who begged for six years
until she had enough money for the bus fare to get to the hospital I I
wept all over the book and it got smeared!

I just cannot begin to imagine what it would be like to be incontinent of
faeces and urine, to smell so badly, to be an outcast from society, homeless
and starving and to have to bear just pain with so little hope. But they do
with what seems to be so little anger and resentment about the terrible
unfairness of life. There we go I'm crying again.

Carol
