Hi Carol

Missed you at the Bienniel as I like to hear your learned comments.
Never mind ... there had to be a good reason why some of us made it
and others did not.
It was good to get to meet Jenny Parratt as she had recently joined
ASIM and I knew a little about her through her submitted profile. We
sat on the same table for the Fellows Forum so were able to have a
good yak.

Re the article .... I still have not spoken to the reporter. I
answered her questions via the e-mail.
Is that the way it went for you too?
I was just lucky that the reporter had a photographer somewhere in
the vicinity of Lynne and Chris. I held the poor man up for forty
minutes while I battled the traffic across the city but he was very
patient and took lots of photographs. Must get hold of some more of
them for Lynne and Chris. Boy, are they taking on a heaving load at
the moment .... three little girls under two years of age!
Both Lynne and Chris DO have a wonderful supportive family and I'm
sure that is what will keep Lynne out of Karitane or Tresillian. She
is doing so well and the girls have both gained heaps of weight.

The saddest thing I heard of (other than USA disaster) was an account
from one of my students who was supporting a friend having twins
(born same day as Olivia and Brianna).
The student's friend gave birth to her first twin while sitting on
the birth stool, only to have it whisked away (by a midwife who said
"we won't be needing this any more!" while she was forced to lay down
for a 'palpation.' The woman was then told she had an abnormal lie
and the baby's FHS were abnormal and raced off to theatre for a C/S
for the second twin! The next day the VMO came and berrated the woman
and told her she had put her second twin at risk by trying to
obstruct the doctor's efforts to save it's life.

I am hearing similar stories from my students all the time now ...
and there is an -mail amongst the two hundred odd I just downloaded
from Ryde Hospital telling the story of how their obstetricians have
set guidelines stating that all twins will be born in the operating
theatre from now on!

How do you deal with that kind of approach? I am continually stunned
by the drama and force and put-down of women in their efforts to give
birth naturally. Women have little hope of a natural birth if they
have twins on board or a breach presentation.

I know I need to write about Lynne and Chris's twins birth but fear
my story would only be shared with midwives ... I need to get to
obstetricians with Lynne and Chris's birth story and demonstrate a
safe natural way if ever barbaric approaches to childbirth like the
above are to be modified.

Any clues from you or anyone else on the list as to how to go about it?

Regards
Jan
