I just wanted to share my story of a wfo (women friendly
obstetrician)
A little while ago I had to transfer a woman out of the BC for
no progress in 2nd stage and MSL. This woman pushed and pushed and we had her in
all sorts of positions to help this little person come out. She had the CTG on
by this stage and was on the mat on the floor. When the wfos came to assess her
they did so on the mat on the floor etc leaving the lights off and speaking
quietly. Then the senior one stayed with me in the room on a stool in the corner
to see what would happen. No progress was made by this baby after what seemed
like ages and the fetal heart was now looking tired to say the least.I It was
obvious a ventouse was needed and the woman, her partner and support people all
agreed this was necessary so we prepared for this procedure. I was dashing
around getting all ready and then stood waiting for this baby to be born when
the wfo said to me "Jackie do you think I could have a little bit of light?" In
all my preparations I had forgot to put on any lights because this wfo hadn't
needed them and I'm not used to working with them. The wfo said the spot light
would be enough (it was daytime but the curtains were closed) so this baby was
born into a fairly gentle environment still. It was lovely.
