It's all well and good to say that babies can be born in breech presentation
(we know that) and that all women have choices. In most of rural Australia,
no obstetrician and no choice is the norm. The GPs don't give their clients
enough good unbiased evidence based information for them to make a choice
even if they did have one. Searching out an ob or midwife who will support
a vaginal breech birth is difficult, means travel away from home, and will
only happen with a very motivated well-informed woman. The rest have an
elective C/S because that is their only choice. We have had a few
undiagnosed breech births over the years - all birthed beautifully, no
problems, one on the back seat of the car before the doctor got there!
