Great letter Denise,

It constantly amazes me, well actually it doesn't!, that Drs feel they are the best and ONLY deliverers of care to pregnant women. What I can't understand is how they constantly get away with their unfounded allegations against midwives and their propensity to outdated practice which has been proven unbeneficial, and sometimes downright dangerous, by the many studies that have been published . 'Go figure!!'

Hi all....in answer to your question above Sally....a quote from Brigitte Jordan.......

"The power of authoritative knowledge is not that it is correct...but that it counts".

(from Authoritative Knowledge and Its Construction...in Childbirth and Authoritative Knowledge - Cross Cultural Perspectives, Robbie E. Davis-Floyd and C. F Sargent (ed) 1997)

We still have along way to go to change the 'power' and status of the biomedical model, that still continues to maintain its status on the basis of fear and intimidation.....I still hold onto to the belief ....if that's all they've got going for them....their time is limited....

Yours in birth,
