I have the smae problem with Body piercing - being something that Doctors don't like I have had clients tell me that doctors have thought them so stupid as to say...

Client had flu type symptoms - Docotr said, "Remove your tongue piercing, I am not going to give you any antibiotics until you remove the piercing because I think that is making you sick."  She had been wearing the piercing for 5 yrs and did not remove it - went home, went to bed and Hey presto - SHE GOT BETTER WITHOUT REMOVING HER TONGUE BAR! (amazing!)

A client who went to the doctor over another reason the day after having her eyebrow pierced.  Dr said - "That piercing looks swollen - it must be badly infected - I had better take it out"  "But I only got it yesturday?!"Says the patient.  "Well, I don't like the look of it, it is going to keep swelling and cause you to go blind."  So the Doctor proceded to take it out causing even MORE bruising to the slightly swelled/bruised piercing.  Then went on to flush the piercing site with saline slipping and stabbing her eyebrow with the needle, at great pain to the client.
Bottom line being - There was no infection but it swelled up for a week after the doctor had finished with it and gave the client a black eye.   How could he/she mistake a bruise for infection?  Is this just a power trip they are on?

To me it just shows how these people (Doctors)abuse their position and view the general public as stupid enough to believe whatever they say regardless of if it is founded or not.  The same goes for childbirth and anything else that they want to have control of.

That's my whinge for the evening.

Rhonda.

Great letter Denise,

It constantly amazes me, well actually it doesn't!, that Drs feel they are the best and ONLY deliverers of care to pregnant women. What I can't understand is how they constantly get away with their unfounded allegations against midwives and their propensity to outdated practice which has been proven unbeneficial, and sometimes downright dangerous, by the many studies that have been published . 'Go figure!!'

Regards Sally
