Hi Denise,

I completed my Midwifery course last year and had the pleasure of being present when one of the midwives from this Centre came to speak with us. She said that they had to close because their obstetrician was in his 70s and had to retire.  The Centre was not allowed to remain open without an obstetrician on hand who supported them.  They could find NO ONE who would stand in for them.  The old ob apparently was fantastic... he supported the idea of midwifery led care, and stayed upstairs, out of the way unless he was called.  It sounded like such a wonderful way to have a baby :(
