Dear Denise,
I am a midwife at the Angliss Hospital and also work from time to time at the
Hawthorn Birth Centre. The Angliss has both a birth centre, which is were I
work, and a community Midwifery program which works out of two of our GP's
rooms. Our Birth centre offers VBAC and does not exclude women with gestational
diabetes. The CMC program takes on all women regardless . The birth centre has a
team of 9 midwives and CMC has one to one care. Together we bring in 35%
of the clients.and both models have great stats.
The Hawthorn birth centre is still open for
business. The obstetrician decided to postpone retirement and will keep the
place open as long as someone wants to use it. It is very much midwife centred
and a great environment in which to have a baby. The obstetrician is very
supportive and his role is very low key. Pity more women don't utilise
it.
Regards
Clare Lane
