Dear Denise   The Mercy Family Birth Centre (FBC) is a midwifery model of care. Women receive their antenatal care, education & postnatal care from a team of midwives. All women see an obstetrician for 1 antenatal visit (usually around 16 weeks) & again if any complications arise during their pregnancy.� The women thus get to meet the midwives throughout their pregnancy (& vice versa).   This model of care is very similar to that offered by the Royal Women’s FBC, Monash Medical Centre’s FBC & The Angliss Birth Centre.   The Mercy FBC midwives, although not actively promoting waterbirth, encourage the use water as a method of pain relief in labor.
