More good news today as one of my clients called me to tell me her good news related to her on-going battle with her health fund to get adequate return on her midwife's fee.
Her health fund, MBF, has assured her that they will return her a maximum of $3000 as long as she does not claim on the services of an obstetrician. HALLILUYAAAAH! Any independent midwife who has clients belonging to MBF should tell them to get in touch with MBF's Account Manager, Peg Higginbottom, Level 7, 468 St. Kilda Road, Melbourne 3004 or phone Peg direct on 03 9268 9844. Either way, it would be a nice gesture if IPMs sent a Christmas Card to Peg and congratulation her and MBF on taking this quantum leap forward. HAPPY CHRISTMAS MBF!!! Jan Robinson PS Please note this agreement between my client and MBF is a "one-off" event. MBF has not begun to advertise returns on a midwife's fee for the total birth package yet. I feel my client has this promise from MBF because she wrote so many letters to them during her last pregnancy and finally managed to achieve a return of $1800 which equated with the Health Fund giving the largest return at the time. My client threatened to cease her membership and go with another fund paying greater returns at the time. IPMs should now make a concerted effort to have ALL their clients who belong to a Private Health Fund to write and negotiate a similar package to that promised to my client by MBF. The year 2003 is definately looking better for women seeking homebirths with an independent midwife!
