Okay,
so I'm not a home birth midwife, but I do believe in women's bodies and
abilities. I also have had a run of unexpected outcomes. Just the other day I
took over, primip in good labour, 7cms, head at spines. Wanting to push an
hour later, pushed to urge, no progress so a quick feel with her on her hands
and knees. Could feel head about2cms in. Kept on pushing to urge. Sat on loo 1.5
hrs later. VE while there 7cms with a very puffy anterior lip!
Four hours, no progress and I had caused further complications. Over to
delivery for an epidural, by the time we got the analectic the anterior lip had
reduced(head down) and she had dilated about 0.5.. Finally had a C/S at 9pm. I
donot encourage women to push, but to go with their bodies. Weal, maybe next
time I'll make her get over on her back, do a invasive VE,(not a gentle 'feel'
while she is in a comfy position, nor ask her to have a feel) and just make sure
she is fully.
