Thank you Debbie for this contact details.  I will be emailing her today sometime.
As for the bit about the discussion of a RCT of vbac and cs at the  Cochrane Collaboration: I would put my money on it being the ACTOBAC trial as Prof Marc Keirse (co-author of Effective Care) was there at the anniversary thing and it was this that he reported to me that the ACTOBAC had been discussed and he had voiced his objections to such a trial - as he still does.  Unfortunately people such as Murray Enkin do support the need for a RCT on vbac. Strange the way the balance of power swings sometimes.

PS Carolyn, my back is getting better...it doesn't hurt to breathe anymore which must be a plus!

Jo

Catherine Eden is the NCT Parliamentary Officer.  Her email is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

She is the secretary of the All Party Parliamnetary Group on Maternity.

Other useful contacts are Mary Newburn (who is the Policy and Research Person).  Her email is [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have just been flicking through my old copies of New Digest ( the journal for NCT specialist workers), and came across an article that Mary did in December last year entitled: "What has the Cochrane Collaboration done for maternity care?"  In it she refers to a conference held last year to celebrate 10 years of the Cochrane Collaboration, and says:

"One idea aired at the conference was a proposal for and RCT of vaginal birth vs. planned Caesarean Section for low-risk women.  It is difficult to reconcile this with the principles outlined above .."  The principles she refers to are those set out in the "Guide to Effective Care..".  I wonder if this was the ACTOBAC trial?

Hope you manage to get hold of Mary and/ or Catherine.

Debbie

Is there anyone who can help me contact someone from the NCT in the UK who might know how the interparlimentary committee into maternity services was set up.  I have looked on their web site and there is only contact details for snail mail and telephone. Dean is happy for me to dedicate more than my share of family time for birthing issues but will draw the line at international phone calls (bugger).
I need an email address if possible.
