Dear Mary,

Yes, a measuring mat is were you stretch out a newborn to measure them.  We have had ours at the Birth Centre for more than 8 years and apparently it has been used for over 15yrs and is as good as new, easy to clean, light and easily folded up for storage and is more accurate than just using a tape measure.

You do not have to strip babies down to measure them as you would have to with a tape measure, the baby can stay warm.  The cost is average for specialised equipment and it will last for a long time.

Regards,
Anne Clarke

Subject: Re: [ozmidwifery] Measuring Mat

Please tell me what a measuring mat is.  I can only surmise it is a mat with measurements for stretching out a newborn to measure its length, but at the cost of $120.  I guess I must be wrong.  Puzzled, MM
