I just sent a letter to australian unity asking what cover they would give me for a home birth. They give about $640 for a private midwife in hospital birth situation (some for prenantal, some for post and a small fee for the birth). They give $2000 for a homebirth if you organise it with them in advance (and join before conceiving).
SGIC/NRMA give $500 for midwifery similar to the hospital cover above.
