I agree Mary. Coming from homebirths that is my natural inclination: the baby weigh and check last before the midwife goes home! It can definetly be different in the hospital but unless baby has been whisked off someplace else (SCBU)that initial interaction of mum and babe takes precedence and the weigh etc is done just before transfer to the ward. it is all a teaching time isn't it and I just explain it to the parents etc.. and they seem ok with it baby will be weighed in due course.

Judy,  I guess one of the main points about the research is that we have to wait until the baby IS ready.  The interuption to weigh the baby etc is still an unnecessary interuption as far as the welfare of the baby is concerned. No criticism. I totally understand the time restrictions of the hospital..getting everything done etc.    It just means that more effort has to be made to let the baby have that uninterupted skin 2 skin time until it is ready to feed.    Maybe get everything else done & then the weight etc last thing before Mum goes off to the P/N ward.
a difficult juggling act I know. Cheers, MM
