Since when has evidenced based research had ANY impact on policies other than the ones that the policy makers want to use?  I have just done some feed back for the SA state perinatal 'guidelines' and I am telling you now that vbac will be almost nonexistant or at the very best non-satisfying for the woman.  It actually states to discourage midwifery led care models that do not impose continuous monitoring...!  Based on research that did not take into consideration the very same model of care they are denying women - no consideration of the outcomes of this model...just based it on the outcomes of the medical model which included things like induction and augmentation etc.
It is like Flinder's medical center trying to tell me the reason vbac in the bc is denied now is that a rupture occurred ....onlabour ward!!!

Dear Kirsten,

Or on the other side of the coin is when you do quote good US research (or any other non Australian research) and the answer is 'oh, but its not Australian research'!  especially when they do not want some best practice introduced or anything changed for that matter.

Anne Clarke
