Hi everyone,

The early registration discounts for this one-off event will close on January 31. The "With Woman, With child" program includes these amazing speakers:

Michel Odent - one of the most charismatic speakers you'll ever hear and one with a crucial message regarding the importance of birth and its significance for mental, emotional and physical health of babies and their mothers. He has visited Australia before and midwives have been fascinated and inspired by his message and the wealth of evidence he cites that underpins the midwifery philosophy. If you have never heard him, you'll want to be sure to attend - if you have heard him before, come an be mesmerised once more....

Susanne Houd is also a brilliant midwifery advocate and communicator. I am amazed she's never been to Australia before as she has so much to offer us. Much of her work has been in Denmark and also in developing countries where she has been a key figure in promoting the Safe Motherhood projects for the WHO. She has led projects in Eritrea and other African and eastern bloc countries and is now working as the only midwife for the communities in eastern Greenland, serving the Inuit population, doing home births and women's health care. Midwifery for remote and indigenous groups are her speciality, where her warmth and outgoing personality have enabled her to integrate and serve these communities in exciting ways. Many of her ideas would work in Australia .....

Sandy Kirkman is also a midwife, now working in Wales. Her messages, always delivered wrapped in humorous anecdote and wonderful story telling, are relevant, insightful and important. As a midwife, Sandy motivates and uplifts, and you will enjoy her unique approach to revealing the essence of midwifery.

Sally Tracy hardly needs introduction in Australia - she has been the dynamo who has compiled the statistics that have underpinned the National Maternity Action Plan (NMAP), led the move towards midwifery-only maternity hospitals in Sydney and pushed Governments relentlessly to adopt midwifery models of care. She will give us an update on the current state of affairs regarding the NMAP, provide feedback on current midwifery projects, and offer suggestions for keeping publicly funded home births and midwifery led maternity units on the political agenda.

You won't want to miss these speakers - it will be quite a day! As usual, we are offering the tour in capital cities so as many of you as possible can attend.

The date for the early registration discounts is January 31. Forming a group (6 or more) will enable you to make even greater savings, but remember that this will need separate registration forms for each person and one cheque or credit card to cover everyone. Please phone us on 02 9564 2322 if you need extra forms, or else photocopy the form that was mailed to everyone on our list in November. A further form will be included in our new catalogue mailing but this may not reach everyone by the cut off date for the discounts.

Registering on-line will give you an extra saving in all categories, including the student discount (you will have to fax or post a copy of your student ID to qualify for the student rate).

I look forward to catching up with many of you in March...!

Andrea
