Hi Sally, I am passing on the message on behalf of someone else. However, one possible reason for concern about infection might be if mum is a Hep B or C carrier. Currently we bath babes of these women as soon as we can. Others we wait for at least 24 hours to do first bath. Nicole.

I certainly wouldn't be bathing the baby if the parents were unable to participate, at any stage after the birth. A bath is a bath, I don't think we need guidelines or a rationale, surely?
