Not only that, she was quite overweight if I remember correctly - another co-sleeping nono. Did they separate out SIDS from suffocation in the story, though? They are two different things...

Whenever one hears of a co sleeping death, the question needs to be asked "Was the adult medicated or drunk?" GL

SIDS figures show that falling asleep (or sleeping intentionally as well
probably) on a couch with a baby is far more dangerous than co-sleeping in
bed.
