Kewlies, Before talking about code and database issues, do you know if the user ever posted content onto the portal with the now 'deleted' account?

We deleted one of the accounts from AD. We went into the shares services and the accounts isn't in the user profiles, however when you go and use the people picker, both accounts still appear.
