Daniel,
We would all love to have our own 64bit Server under the desk to develop
on. But until recently, MS haven't been supporting us Devs on that target
OS, as their focus was on the majority of devs using 32 bit client OSes.
And most organisations don't have deep enough pockets, don't allow Server
installs on desktop boxes and don't have any dev server infrastructure.
If companies support developers at all, at best they force on you a base
Dev 32bit XP build/SOE. At worse they give you a client/user box that takes
days to get freed from policies just to install VS.
Which is why we all often end up with a hamstrung and under-powered XP box
chewing on virtual machines. Or sidestep it all and buy a top spec Notebook
and external eSata+USB hard drive.
Of course, your mileage may vary, and good luck to you if it does!
Regards, us poor cousins.

IMHO, Developers should be developing on the target environment and not a
Client OS. For myself, I wont develop other than the targeted platform
for the intended environment.,
A side nit to pick: How's that work for pocket pc development?
I kid...
