Any reason not to just send the required files to the document workspace using OOTB functionality?

This boils down to two requirements: 1 Required: A link to a target doc (in a different library) that you can 'edit in word' The OOTB link opens the target doc as required, but the name doesn't have the java menu's edit word option, as a link isn't a document type... so I'm thinking links might not be the best solution or at least a custom web part to view them is required. That is not ideal as I need to keep many of the standard doc lib features and I don't want to reinvent the wheel for all those. Regardless, I'd also have to provide a pick list on the link form so they can browse to the correct systems doc. 2 Preferable: Link reflects meta data on target doc This is another 'canOworms' - I can certainly copy the fields that match over via an event on the target doc lib, although it will require some searching for all matching links. I don't think they should be moved back the other way though. My gut feeling is I'd prefer the meta data to stay in the one place with it's true owner, so again views or custom controls/web parts with the same issues as 1.
