Hi all,

Can't find anything about this and am hoping someone might be able to help.

I'm getting the following error when I try to make changes to a site column. It
appears to be the only column affected.

The object has been updated by another user since it was last fetched. at
Microsoft.SharePoint.SPField.UpdateSchemaXmlInWeb(String strXml, Boolean
bToggleSealed, Boolean bRichText, String strFmla, List`1 fldTitles, List`1 fids)
   at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPField.UpdateInWeb(Boolean bToggleSealed)
   at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPField.UpdateCore(Boolean bToggleSealed)
   at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPField.Update()
   at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFieldMultiChoice.Update()
   at
Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.ManageFieldPage.UpdateFieldWithPropertiesFromXml(SPField
 fld, String strXml)
   at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.ManageFieldPage.ProcessWeb()
   at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.ManageFieldPage.OnLoad(EventArgs e)
   at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive()
   at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean
includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

I resolved this issue previously by removing the site column from any content
type it was present in and then recreating it and adding it back again. But I'd
dearly like to know why it's happening as this would be a nasty fix for a
well-populated farm.

I feel it's got to do with versioning and the fact that these columns were
migrated. Could there be a hidden value I could change to fix this in future?
