The way you do migration really depends on your environment and existing DR plan.
All approaches are recommended, depending on available hardware and how much time you have to restore system if something went wrong J I would say that "recommended" approach is not good phrase for backup. "What's the simpliest approach" sounds better. In-place upgrade is the worst one under such circumstances, because restoring environment will be painful. I found that "Hybrid approach" (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/ee517215.aspx) is very optimal. You can validate and attach the old content database to SharePoint 2010 without affecting the existing system (SP2010 can validate database via Power Shell) . And then easily upgrade servers (one by one) when you finished all tests WBR, Michael Nemtsev, Microsoft MVP http://www.sharepoint-sandbox.com <http://www.sharepoint-sandbox.com/> http://msmvps.com/blogs/laflour From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Tommy Segoro Sent: Tuesday, 9 February 2010 10:27 AM To: ozMOSS Subject: RE: Upgrading MOSS 2007 to SP 2010 BETA I'm not sure. There is not much documentation out there. I think people are still trying to do this, too and finding the best practice for it. What is the MS recommended approach to upgrading from MOSS 2007 to 2010? Note: All custom solutions and features have to be deployed and activated on the new SP 2010 farm though. Below is the screenshot of the custom WSS 3.0 site that was created using CompleteSharepoint.NET (custom site template): cid:[email protected] I still reckon that this will be the right way to upgrade. I attempted this twice using in-place upgrade and it failed. It has something to do with the old MOSS 2007 content database cannot be upgraded. Please see my report on http://sp2010journal.blogspot.com if you're interested. I'm now going to try attaching MOSS 2007 content database to a clean install of SP 2010. Cheers, Tommy
