Thanks for the input Paul.

In fact the issue is limited to lists, no document libraries appear to be
affected. Also there was no versioning enabled on the source lists, or any
content deployment on the SC. We performed the export of an entire sites, so
the affected lists are being created on import.

I now believe it is an issue between the source and the destination site
collection templates. We've used the same .cabs to import into collaboration SC
and we don't see the duplication.

Unfortunately we're stuck with the effected sites, now we need to figure out
how to get rid of our duplicates...

Yes. Stsadm is very particular (read flaky) with versioning and will not
removed duplicates on a subsequent import.

I assume this is only affecting document libraries? Did you run the same
parameters on the export command? Did you retain IDs? Had you previously set-up
content deployment or was this a first time import?

And, most importantly, was versioning enabled on the target list?

If you can tick off all the above then I recommend checking your
source/destination MOSS versions and taking a look at these patches.

Subject: duplicate list items after site export/import

Hi.

We've recently migrated some team sites from one site collection (moss collab)
to another (moss publishing). We used '-versions 4' on the stsadm -o export and
left '-updateversions' as default on the import command.

We have a issue where list items with previous versions, when exported then
imported, now have duplicate items (one item in the list for each version) in
the list.

Has anyone run across this problem before?

Thanks.
