Does the build script have \\unknown\drops in it or have you updated it with the correct drop location? You will have to fill this bit in manually for a 2008 script to work for 05 gui

It’s the other way around – we are using the 2008 Build Scripts from the VS2005 UI

Interesting the only time I have seen that in the 2008 UI with a 2005 build script was when I added an extra property group at the top of the .proj file, but you get the error every time you build, not sporadically.

My client is using TFS 2008 SP1 but most applications are still using VS2005. I have a number of build types that until recently have built without any issue using the VS2005 GUI. Recently SOME of the build types have been getting the error (as a message box) from the VS2005 GUI “Drop location is not defined in the Build Type <Buil d Type Name”

Another symptom I’ve noticed, if you right click on the “Team Builds” node on the VS2005 Team Explorer and click “Build Team Project Applications…” in the dropdown for “Build Type”, the build types appear to be in a “Random” order – and don’t include the projects I’m having the issue with. Note that even afte r adding the Property of “DropLocation” to the “TFSBuild.proj” for the build type – the problem continues.

As a “Work Around” I’m having the developers build from VS2008 or Web Access – but it would be preferred to be able to build from t he IDE they are developing in.

Also – is there a way to control in the VS2005 IDE what “Build Machines” show in the dropdown? We have a “Dev” TFS environment with a “DEV” TFS2008SP1 Build Agent – that I would like to NOT be able to be requested from “Production TFS”

The problem seemed to start happening after I restored the Production TFS backup to the Dev Server (not sure if that’s conincde nce)

Thanks!
