Hi,

Sounds straight forward, don't think you'll need to run the VMware converter in
your case for Server472 so you just might have to find something to do while
those .vmdk files copy. Hope you've got a 1 Gbps network ;-)

Use the VMware Converter for Server466 and Server467 (assuming they are bare
metal) to move them to the VMware ESX server.

Subject: Migrating TFS2008 server

Hi Guys,

I need to migrate 1 instance of TFS to another server.

The setup is simple, although a multi-server environment.

 *   TFS 2008 (+web access) – Server472, Win2003, 32-bit, Virtual Server
(vmware)
    *   Reporting Server – Server467, Win2008, 64-bit
    *   SQL Server – Server466, Win2008, 64-bit
    *   MOSS Server – Server468, Win2008, 64-bit

What I need is to move Server472 from one environment to another – vmware
server and onto a vmware esx environment.

I also want to move the Reporting Server (Server467) on to this vmware esx
environment.

Lastly, I want to migrate the SQL DB from Server466 and onto the vmware esx
environment (sorry, don’t have a choice re: virtual platform).

What should I be careful off here – is there anything (duh) that’s a major
issue when moving TFS from one environment to another? I’ve worked with TFS for
quite a while, but have never had to migrate the servers/services etc.

The TFS server itself will pretty much be a copy/paste job as they’re taking
the entire virtual server/vhd et al across from the current server and into the
larger esx environment.

Cheers,
