Our starting point:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms404883.aspx

We had problems with migrating the sharepoint portals, and permissions
problems with the reporting server, but these were largely because we
were carrying a server that had been set up with TFS V1.0, lots of
baggage from the upgrade to 2008 and some WSS shenanigans too.

Also, we had to move it all twice, from one domain to another, then to
another.

It all worked out, but I can't emphasise enough that you should run the
TFS Best Practices Analyzer before doing anything and again afterwards,
and keep checking your event log to see if any service errors are
cropping up.

Dylan.

Subject: Migrating TFS2008 server

Hi Guys,

I need to migrate 1 instance of TFS to another server.

The setup is simple, although a multi-server environment.

*       TFS 2008 (+web access) - Server472, Win2003, 32-bit, Virtual
Server (vmware)

        *       Reporting Server - Server467, Win2008, 64-bit
        *       SQL Server - Server466, Win2008, 64-bit
        *       MOSS Server - Server468, Win2008, 64-bit

What I need is to move Server472 from one environment to another -
vmware server and onto a vmware esx environment.

I also want to move the Reporting Server (Server467) on to this vmware
esx environment.

Lastly, I want to migrate the SQL DB from Server466 and onto the vmware
esx environment (sorry, don't have a choice re: virtual platform).

What should I be careful off here - is there anything (duh) that's a
major issue when moving TFS from one environment to another? I've worked
with TFS for quite a while, but have never had to migrate the
servers/services etc.

The TFS server itself will pretty much be a copy/paste job as they're
taking the entire virtual server/vhd et al across from the current
server and into the larger esx environment.

Cheers,
