hmm.. i am just a passerby and have no idea if this helps
..but i noticed that the download rate i get using TCP on an IRC chat client
are usually faster than either ftp or http transfers that i get on an
browser. no idea why that should be .. But using a java applet aint all that
bad an idea --- like this really neat downloader called chuukurai -
