Yes. The work at OCN informed a lot of my thinking on this, although I don't actually think many of the protocols in the OCN family are necessary most of the time, like THEX. The SIP protocol family or the XMPP with extensions stuff also makes more sense than WebMUX, but that's the general idea. I don't know if the current version of Swarmcast still implements this
stuff. At this point I think it's too late; BitTorrent beat HTTP-swarming like Skype beat SIP.
Sad but true. I still think if clients came along that really did all this well, though, things could change. Interoperability could theoretically offer enough competitive advantages for such a shift. -Adam
