The obvious "fix" was really to use subscribe-by-email or
subscribe-by-IM, with the original Web site sending notifications to
subscribed users.
But apparently lots of people want to build layers of cruft instead of
this simple scheme ;-)) SMTP probably isn't hype enough, and e-mail is
so boooring ("look I have a blog, and you can even read it with RSS!").
