The last release from the upstream was in 2016 so the snapshot was needed to get the most up to date version. I'll ask upstream if they can make a new release instead. I don't quite understand your request to remove debug symbols. The package provides useful debuginfo so it should be enabled per guideline https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/#_debuginfo_packages Lastly, it looks like you are not yet a packager so the review is unofficial.
