Hi Steve, Which model of HP switch are you using?
Have a look at http://www.packetfence.org/downloads/PacketFence/doc/PacketFence_Network_Devices_Configuration_Guide-4.0.1.pdf That document will tell you which methods your switch will support and how to configure it to communicate with PF.
