So you are able to connect from everywhere on any ip interfaces.
So look if there are any iptables rules (iptables -L -n -v), and if yes
then stop ipables (service iptables stop).

Both times no access except from the local machine - even tried

None seem to work - anywhere else I should be looking? This is after a
fresh install too - I didn't play with anything that should prevent access..
