Let us know your findings, even if you have not yet solved the issue and we may 
be able to help out.

If you are willing to, you can do a quick test.
Edit the following file accordingly: 
/usr/local/pf/sbin/pfdns, line 120 (or so) where it says Verbose => 0, put a 1 
rather than the 0.
Then try running the pfdns daemon by hand: /usr/local/pf/sbin/pfdns
And paste the output.

That may be a “good” start to see if it’s actually that daemon that is in fault.
