Forgive me if this is out of line, however I must ask. Did you contact Inverse
for professional support?

No one on this list is beholden to anyone else to provide support. This is a
community list even though Inverse monitors this list closely and often gives
free support.

However you need to understand the fact that the support on this list is free,
even the support from Inverse.

PacketFence is NOT a limited support product, Inverse is very capable of
providing anyone with any level of support you should so desire. However that
offering is not free and it should not be.

If you want immediate support with people who will work with you until your
problem is resolved, Inverse is happy to oblige you. Do not expect that kind of
support to be free or even cheap.

I do pay Inverse for professional support, they have been exceedingly helpful,
and I often encourage anyone who can to do the same.

TL;DR?

Free support (aka Fs) = this list = you get support in our free time (aka Ft).

or put another way:

Ft has a positive corrolation with Fs: so as Ft ↓ so Fs ↓ and as Ft ↑ so Fs ↑.

And Cisco TAC style support = $$$

Please do not take this as a personal attack, it is not meant as such. I
simply want to set the record straight about the supportability of PacketFence.

Subject: Re: [PacketFence-users] Snort Not Working

Thanks for writing me back.

I can get snort to run using service snort start but nothing with packetfence.
Suricata worked tho. I'm also noticing the captive portal trapping requires the
device to have the nic restarted. With these two issues and limited support I
will have to wait
to try this project after further development.

If you take the snort start-up line used by PF, and you remove the

daemon flag and start that manually, what do you get?
