Seconded.

If you want free, you'll be expected to figure out many things yourself
(what logs are you looking at for snort issues? In my pf testing and
production on CentOS boxes, that's /var/log/messages, which helped me
figure out most of my snort issues. YMMV), although you may well get help
on this list.

Packetfence is an excellent system - very well supported, but complex, and
still able to trip up the best of us from time to time.
