Fabrice:
I am very thankful for all the assistance you have given me and I will be
testing the package you built ASAP.
I took your advice and looked at the pfdetect code and I think I have come up
with a working solution.
I am reflecting SNORT events to the PF server using the method I linked to you
earlier. From there I have written some new code that correctly parses out the
necessary bits and can pass them to the PFDetect method that fires off the
violation.
Here is the code, it should be a drop in replacement for the current set of
REGEXs that is in there now:
if (index($_,"OSSEC") != -1) {next;}
my @Step1 = split(m/[{}](?![^{}!()]*\))/,$_);
my @Step2 = split(" ",$Step1[4]);
$srcip=$Step2[0];
$sid=$Step2[6];
$desc=$Step1[3];
I tried to write a one-line line REGEX like the one that is in the file
currently ... but ... for goodness sake, who at Inverse made the Faustian deal
necessary to posses the skill to write such a monstrosity!
I am still learning Perl, so if the code is horrendous please let me know.
I should note that this code works for parsing the log entries that I get from
Security Onion, it WILL break pure SNORT log parsing.
Theoretically you could add it in the existing if-then-else chain, but the code
will almost certainly need to be changed at least slightly to allow for an IF
statement to be evaluated. As it is, it will populate the fields even if those
values are not the correct type.
I'm going to do a bit more refining to the code, basically checking to make
sure the field values are the correct type (IE: the SRCIP var should really
contain an IP and not some miss-parsed junk).
I am going to be putting this code into my lab box in a few minutes, wish me
luck!
