The laptop is running Windows 7 Enterprise with SP1. If I
switch the settings in Windows to “User authentication”, I get the same error:

On the PacketFence server, I can run “wbinfo –a stormont” and
then my PW, I get plaintext password authentication succeeded. So it seems
like winbind on the PacketFence server is communicating with AD fine, but it’s
something between the laptop and the PacketFence server?

Does user authentication work? machine auth can take some fiddling.
