Fair point. I will add it as an item on the growing PF5 wishlist.
Schema changes cannot be automated entirely.
Mysql locks the table it is altering, which is unfortunate but there it is...
Altering a large table can take time, during which PF may not be able to
authenticate/authorize user.
It’s best to do that at a time of your choosing when possible downtime will not
affect production.

We are already planning on support RFC 2324 in the next release.
That might be something we can do at the same time.
Would there be any interest in IMPS support? (i.e. RFC 2795)
