A quick followup. We heard back from Huawei who have solved the problem. 
With v2r3 software the default type for switch ports is hyrbid, but for 
v2r7 this has changed to negotiation-auto. Simply adding the the line 
"port link-type hybrid" to the ports fixes the problem. Can this be 
added to the Network Devices Configuration Guide Huawei instructions.
