By the way:

When I uninstall the gstreamer-fluendo-Package, Amarok complains about
not being able to play mp3 files. After ignoring that message it does
play them anyway.
The gstreamer-ugly-package is installed and i understand that brings an
mp3 decoder as well. So why is Amarok complaining and then playing anyway?

Cheers,
Martin

Hi all,

I raised the issue a couple of weeks ago. Meanwhile I opened a Bug at
the Gstreamer Bugzilla:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=666735

It turns out the problem is with the Fluendo MP3 codec.

I thought that this component is part of gstreamer as well but it seems
as if I will have to open another Bugreport somewhere else. Still trying
to find out...

In the meantime i tried the following:

Switched the gstreamer-fluendo-package from packman (created in dec
2011) to standard Opensuse (created in feb 2011).

Surprise: The mp3 file plays just fine. Switched back to the packman
version: garbled sound.

So it is either an issue with the gstreamer fluendo codec that has been
broken between feb and dec 2011 (thats why I want to open a bugreport
there) or the packman package is broken (thats why I'm posting here).

Maybe someone can have a look at that.

Cheers,
Martin
