End user here I like the gray-scale #2 because I don't like wild bright colors on my launcher bar, but #4 is legible even with very small type. Right now I'm using the older bright blue butterfly as the icon on my lancher. It's easy to find. A gray-scale butterfly would be good too. I think an option to change which icon is used post-install is a good idea. For the about/splash/etc screen those graphics are not size/space/loading critical so full on color specialness is good there.
