Things such as the launch icon for padre are exactly the sort of thing that should NOT be done with a user-configurable setting.
I think we should just pick the best on and stick to it. In this case, I agree with the user of the bright blue butterfly. It was specifically made to be highly visible (bright blue, X shape rather than more common round or square shape etc).
