I'm liking perlbrew myself at the moment. While I'm still to get a running perlbrewed 5.10.1 to test Padre, it's fairly painless, and it means you install everything to your ~/ directory. Claudio has a good start here, but it's 64bit, at least that's what I can see with the flags.. http://nxadm.wordpress.com/2010/12/10/get-the-latest-perl-release-with-perlbrew/ And from there once you switch, you can install Alien::wxWidgets, Wx and then Padre with either cpan or cpanm I'm just going through the motions on my VM at the moment, but I'll document this on the site when it's done.
