I personally like the idea of perl tidy, but not quite so much it's implementation. It must be said that any conformal formatting does bring additional readability and other good values. We can all get used to how things are formatted, but we should be happy (more or less) with that formatting to start with. I'm not a Padre developer, just offering the opinion of an interested party and end user.
I personally find (and this is personal taste) that perltidy formats bits in a way that seem less readable. I have initially told myself that I'm just not used to it. It's not a huge difference from how I write anyway, but I'm used to seeing things that way. It is my plan to ensure that my code all passes muster with perl tidy (with some minor exceptions) and perl critic. That should make it more easily maintained ... by myself or someone else. So as someone who may one day soon look at the code, I would be appreciative of conformal formatting style.
