My hope is that the Padre and PDL integration could be a nice alternative to Matlab. So anything that gets us closer to that would be great. If you are not familiar with Matlab (as I am not :) you can check out some videos on YouTube showing it: eg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPLBPdux6bs
