Tourism Ministry To Launch "Malaysia Welcomes The World" Campaign
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The Tourism Minsitry will lauch a new
campaign entitled "Malaysia Welcomes The World" (MWW) early next year to
prepare the people for a surge in tourist arrivals in conjunction with
Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
Its minister, Datuk Dr Leo Michael Toyad said MWW would be a comprehensive
campaign to change the mindset of Malaysians towards tourism and is aimed
at improving their skills in interacting with tourists effectively in
various languages.
"Malaysians are known for their hospitality, but we have to go beyond that
and make sure each tourist who comes here is made to feel truly welcome,"
he said after attending a Buka Puasa (breaking of the fast ) function with
members of the media and 50 orphans from Klang's Rumah Anak Yatim Kampung
Damai orphanage, here Thursday night.
Dr Toyad said the focus of the campaign would be frontliners who directly
interacted with tourists including civil servants, tourists guides and taxi
drivers.
He also thanked the media for their support for the tourism industry,
especially in times like now with an outbreak of dengue which was not
conducive for tourism.
