KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri
Najib Tun Razak on Saturday outlined five strategies to churn out the
"Glocal Malays" or globalised local Malays which will complement efforts at
creating the towering personality.
He said the first strategy was to develop the Glocal Malay personality,
followed by increasing the number of experts with the glocal outlook,
mastering glocal knowledge and information, setting up glocal business
networks and strengthening glocal business.

The term "Glocal" means one has to be open to new ideas and yet embedded in
one's own culture, that is, globally appropriate and culturally relevant.
The two-day convention, which was also attended by Terengganu Menteri Besar
Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, is being organised by the Terengganu Development
Institute and the Terengganu Government. The word "Glocal" comes from the
combination of the words global and local.
Najib said increasing the number of experts with the glocal outlook was
important because expertise was the most important factor in enabling one
to be involved actively at all levels.
He said human capital armed with expertise and added value was more
important than the other forms of capital.
