I'm not aware of any official (supported by Palm) way to read "key" data
from the serial port. At least four hacks have been written for this, one
for the Gotype keyboard commerical product
(http://www.landware.com/products/gotype/gotypeps.html), KeyZ
(http://www.inkverse.com/keyz.html) for Newton keyboards -- freeware
without source, FreeKey
(http://www.pilotgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=96277119990329124947&prodID=1232)
for Newton keyboards -- freeware without source, and PiloKey -- which
apparently is a Landware product that is not sold any more, and presumably
was merged with their Gotype product.
For use in your own product, you'd basically have to write a hack or use
one of these existing hacks. If none are suitable, perhaps you might
convince one of the authors of a freeware hack to release the source code
so that it could be improved and adapted by the community -- I'm sure lots
of people would like to work on such a thing, but don't feel like
reinventing the wheel, from scratch, for about the fifth time.
